Real Weddings: Sarah + Steve

I had such a fun time working with Sarah and Steve on their winter wedding this past December at Sodo Park by Herban Feast!  They are a fun loving couple with modern tastes who also appreciate vintage/rustic elements and looked to incorporate both into their wedding.  We selected a streamlined yet elegant decor theme that paid tribute to the winter season with a color palette of white, slate, silver and black.

What I loved most about this wedding was that Sarah and Steve were incredibly easy going and left the entire wedding planning and event design up to my team and I, including selecting a venue and color scheme.  With less than two months to plan their entire wedding, I enjoyed having complete creative control so I could throw in some surprises for the couple!  This wedding was full of unique features, which helped to land it a spot on the coveted wedding blog Style Me Pretty (check out the blog feature).

Sarah & Steve’s First Look…

We were blessed with sunshine in the middle of December so the bridal party took photos outside of the venue, Sodo Park.  Don’t you just love that blue wall in the background?!  The vintage parasols were provided by Bella Umbrella.

Their daughter was an adorable flower girl with a floral halo and “princess” wand created by Flora Nova.

When searching for a venue, the couple told me they wanted something with a city “loft” feel that could also be romantic.  The venue that we selected, Sodo Park, is a restored machine factory with lots of unique charm and historical ties to Seattle.  The couple fell in love with this location on their first visit!  Steve, a construction engineer, loved the exposed beams and rustic ambiance.  Sarah loved that they use sustainable practices with their catering.

To create an intimate space in the large factory style room, we installed floor to ceiling draping that enclosed the middle section of the room, leaving the perimeter available for several lounge spaces.  During the ceremony, we left all the drapes down with only two tied back for a dramatic entrance into the intimate space.  A soft hue of ice blue was cast on the curtains, with candle light lining the aisle leading to a dramatic illuminated arch.  I worked with Flora Nova on the event design.  Christiane did an amazing job with all the floral design!

Sarah and Steve both love food and I wanted to find a way to tie their favorite foods in to the reception.  Working with the culinary team at Herban Feast, we created a dinning experience that was impressive to say the least.  The cocktail hour featured a “his and her” food station with family recipes from Steve and Sarah’s respective families, a sushi chef who hand rolled sushi for guests and custom cocktails hung from tree branches.  Dinner featured a three course meal of seasonal Northwest cuisine, followed by a dessert course to die for!  Sarah has a little sweet tooth so I went all out on the dessert for the evening, hiring Judy from Tallant House to create some of the most delectable and unique desserts for guests to enjoy…including dessert sushi.  I loved how she created the wedding cake to resemble winter by adding sugar snowflakes and partnering with Flora Nova to create a snowflake-shaped flower base.  To tie in the Northwest culture, I paired the dessert course with espresso catering from Espresso Elegance which featured specialty drinks named for the bride, groom and their daughter.

Sarah and Steve wanted their reception to be a big party so we lined the tables up in a U shape with the dance floor in the center so no one had a bad view and tied back the curtains to create a more open atmosphere.  The tables were decorated with winterly floral arrangements in varying heights, glassybaby votive and simple yet elegant stationary fromChic Ink.  Escort cards designed by Chic Ink hung from winter white trees with sparkle branches at the entrance of the reception space.  DJ extraordinaire, Austin Beaver, kept the evening flowing perfectly and created a special memory when he pre-recorded a greeting from the couple’s daughter that he incorporated into their first dance as a surprise.

Congratulations Sarah & Steve! I wish you all the best as you enter this new chapter of your lives together.

A BIG “thank you” to all the amazing vendors who helped make this wedding possible…
