Design Trend: Unique Place Cards

Wedding Design

2 Nov

It’s often said, when it comes to wedding planning, “It’s all in the details!”, and we as wedding planners live for all the pretty little details. That’s why we’re giddy sharing with you some of the brilliant ways to put a twist on your guests’ place cards!

Traditionally, a place card is a tented card stock with your guests’ names written on it that are then placed at each seat around each table of the reception.

We’ve come up with a few ideas that stretch the boundaries and creativity of the place card, in hopes it brings you inspiration on a fun detail that we as wedding planners love!

1.) Moroccan Tile Place Cards

We love the fun shape and different medium that tiles offer over paper options for your place cards! Anchored Paper Co. created these fun tiles for a Moroccan-infused wedding we dreamed up this past summer! As expected, they were one of the most memorable details of the day, as well as one of the couple’s favorite nods where they met– Morocco!
Wedding Planner Pro Tip: Tiles come in all shapes and sizes! If the arabesque shape of these ones, aren’t you fancy, consider subway tiles, or marble hex tiles!

2.) Laser Cut Wood Place Cards

If you live for over-the-top details that will leave your guests in awe, why not have little cakes made by Honey Crumb Cake Studio at each place setting! Top them off with a wooden laser cut cake topper from Pomp & Revel with each guests’ name to turn it into the most decadent and delicate place card your guests will have ever seen. It’s sure to be the talk around the table!
Wedding Planner Pro Tip: To keep costs down, consider only doing this on your head table, and just having laser cut names on the remaining guests’ place settings!

3.) Gilded Gold Place Cards

If paper is your medium of choice for your place cards but want to add a little something “extra” to it, check out what Anchored Paper Co. did with this luxurious rough-edged cotton paper! She brushed it with a soft gray watercolor, and added a touch of glam, with gilded gold foil! So dreamy. Wedding Planner Pro Tip: Prop it up instead of just laying it on the charger or napkin!

4.) Geode Place Cards

Aren’t these just the cutest! We commissioned Songbird Paperie with the fun task of creating place cards for a whimsy wedding this past summer, using polished geodes sliced very thin! The result? All the glorious jewel tones of geodes on each guest’s place setting.
Wedding Planner Pro Tip: If you’re having a plated meal, use different colored geodes to indicate which meal each individual guest selected for their dinner! This is a great substitute to the cow, fish, and carrot stickers!

We hope you feel inspired to think outside the box when it comes to your place card! The sky is the limit! Leave a comment below for your favorite place card you’ve seen at a wedding, or which of these is your favorite!

Until next time!
