We HAVE to start this Real Wedding blog with Shannon + Ed’s love story–it’s unlike anything we’ve ever heard! This isn’t your typical “love at first sight” story–it’s better!
S+E locked eyes on the subway but didn’t have the confidence to go over to one another and spark up a conversation, but there definitely was an instantaneous connection! So much so, that it wasn’t until a little while later when Shannon couldn’t stop thinking about the man she saw on the train, that she decided to take a chance and check the local “Missed Connections” listings on Craigslist, and {we are SO not kidding here!} lo and behold, Shannon found an ad from Ed asking about her! She responded, they went on a real date after that and the rest is, well…history!
Shannon + Ed were one of the sweetest couples we’ve had the pleasure to work with. They were so laid back and worked closely with our planner, Bridget to ensure their wedding was fun and intimate for their 50 or so guests. Shannon was a hands-on bride and Ed was always willing to help and was a get-it-done kind of guy–this definitely attributed to the planning process being so easy and stress-free!
They had their wedding in a unique place for such a unique couple! The Center for Wooden Boats was the perfect scenery for this lovestruck couple to make it official in front of some of their closest loved ones. All of the different shapes, colors, and kinds of boats moored along the docks near the center provided the effortless decor S+E were looking for on their day. And my, the results are breathtaking.
The weather for their August 7th wedding could not have been more beautiful. Not a cloud in the sky–but there were, however, seaplanes that occasionally hummed by, as they landed on the waters of Lake Union. Guests marveled as watched the seaplanes skidded to a stop along the top of the waters, as they arrived and found their seats on the private dock where their ceremony took place.
S+E’s ceremony was short, sweet, and personal, with each of the pair’s brothers being the only members of the bridal party. Shannon carried sunflowers down the aisle, after they said, “I Do!” that were a perfect embodiment of the day- bright, cheerful, and colorful.
In lieu of a cocktail hour, S+E had arranged for guests to walk over to the sailboat pond, while the Center was transformed for dinner– and what a treat it turned out to be! One of the “pianos in the park” was occupied by a talented passerby, who serenaded guests, as they spectated the model-sized boats that floated along the surface of the ponds.
Shannon + Ed’s reception was just as personal as the ceremony. Ed loved to draw and created a custom designed coloring book for the kiddos attending the wedding to keep occupied with that contained the storyline of S+E’s love story.
Ed’s father hand-made all of the paper flowers that decorated each dinner table, and S +E had custom-made M&M’s as favors for all guests.
The evening ensued with dancing and music, and was not complete without a late-night summer sunset to polish the evening off. The dance floor was never empty, and the music offered a mix of today’s hits with music from Ed’s Ecuadorian background.

Congrats, Shannon + Ed! May your lives together be as long, deep, and endless as the vastness of the sea.
Until next time!
