We’d love to wish a happy belated anniversary to Linda + Hilary who celebrated their wedding last January with us! In honor of their anniversary, we are elated to share photos from their urban, outdoor-inspired, modern celebration at Metropolist with our readers! So, without further ado, congratulations, L+H! And enjoy!
Danae had such a blast wedding planning with Linda and Hilary. They wanted it to be a party first and foremost, and for it to be unconventional. L+H wanted it to be urban and modern, with clean lines, but also have a nod to the great outdoors which is both their first love. They loved for it to have lots of grey tones, navy accents, and textures, which played so well with the various building materials in the venue itself!
The gals opted for different looks on their wedding day, with Hilary donning a fun and flirty navy cocktail dress and Linda going with a more traditional lace, key-hold back gown. Linda did manage to sneak in some navy accents with her killer shoes, and navy fur shawl! The sun decided to come out and show off in dreary January for them! We were so excited. The lighting was perfect in Metropolist with all the big windows that let in all this natural light. We utilized the space in a unique way, by using the venue’s iconic wooden wall as their backdrop, and came up with a unique idea to line the aisle with cinder blocks, candles, and greens, to give it an edgy, urban feel with lots of texture!
With L+H’s affinity for winter and winter activities, it was fitting they should have a vintage set of wooden snow skis for guests to sign as their guest book! They also had photos of their parent’s weddings on display for guests to see too!
Hands down, the best part of the entire day was their ceremony. In Danae’s exact words it was: “The best ceremony I have ever had the privilege to witness. It was officiated by an inclusive and affirming pastor who has had relationship with Linda’s family over the years. He framed the whole ceremony around love. Love between Linda + Hilary, and a call to love and reconcile the world. It was inspiring, encouraging, and enriching.” To top it off, L+H both surprised each other with secret wedding bands! Neither knew the other had bought one for each other! Everyone was in tears; tears of joy!
After the official business, we invited guests into the “gallery” space of Metropolist for cocktail hour with drinks + appetizers while we flipped the room for dinner! In honor of their dads, they commissioned specialty cocktails to be named after their dads who are no longer with us, but are here in ‘spirit’!
For the reception, we had farm tables strewn down the length of the room with the repurposed cinder blocks from the ceremony, and gorgeous air plants tucked in and on the blocks with candles and greenery.
In lieu of a traditional wedding meal, they opted for a Mexican spread provided by Kaspar’s, that was delicious with a touch of spice! Following dinner were toasts, which were the sweetest and sincerest. Linda’s sister shared shots with Linda + Hilary of their dad’s favorite spirit, to honor and acknowledge him. After toasts L+H had a choreographed Michael Jackson first dance that kicked off the night, that ended in a glow stick dance party + impromptu ping pong tourney. 🙂 Dessert was held in the gallery, and were the best ice cream sandwiches with homemade cookies by Street Treats!
Such a fun celebration for a wonderful set of gals. Congratulations, L+H! Cheers to a lifetime of love, light, and laughter!
