PNW Destination Wedding
What’s the only thing better than a destination wedding? A destination wedding that happens over a long weekend! Paige + Sam selected Roche Harbor Resort in the beautiful San Juan Islands to be the backdrop for their wedding celebration and Labor Day weekend getaway!

Complete with a 5k the groom put on for the ambitious, a BBQ on the shores of Roche Harbor, and an extra day of rest and exploration of the island, Paige + Sam’s wedding was the apex of of all the weekend festivities. I’m so excited to share all the fun and details they brought into their day!

Paige + Sam were my favorite kind of love story: high school sweethearts. They watched each other grow up. They knew each other almost as much as they knew themselves, maybe more. They’d lived a lot of life together. And yet, they were still so very smitten with each other. Sam made Paige laugh. And Paige grounded Sam’s big dreams and ideas.

I remember meeting Paige for the first time in our office, and she was wearing a pale blue and white striped shirt, and described her wedding to resemble her shirt. Pastel in color, soft in textures, and reminiscent of her own style. I remember she wanted shades of pale purples, grays, blues and greens and at the time, blush and white was all the rage, so I loved the notion of doing something a little different, but just as beautiful.

Above all, she wanted the wedding to be reflective of her and Sam, and the things that made them them.

One of the coolest things that happened the morning of the big day, was when Paige’s family assembled around her to watch her sign this old wedding slip that all of the women in her family have signed on their wedding day since the mid 1800s! Such a unique family heirloom!

In keeping with the bride’s vision, the bridesmaids donned the prettiest pale green gowns of all styles, and held bunches of lavender while the groom and groomsmen proudly wore the cutest floral ties and lavender boutonnieres.

An Island Wedding Ceremony

Paige + Sam said ‘I Do’ in company with their closest friends and family, one of which officiated, in an effort to keep the ceremony personal. They stood under a glorious circle arch adorned with flowers, and were sure to include their pup in the festivities.
They even had a poem read during the ceremony called “How Falling in Love is like Owning a Dog” that I’ll never forget! In keeping theme, the bride + groom commissioned paper bags with their ceremony programs printed on them that were filled with lavender for guests to throw at the conclusion of the ceremony!

Following the ceremony, guests were directed to the upper patio/terrace of Roche Harbor, where drinks flowed, and food was passed. The bride + groom opted to have their first dance amongst the crowd at this time, and even surprised Paige’s parents with their own song to dance to in honor of their own wedding anniversary that same weekend!
Roche Harbor Pavilion Wedding Reception
For the reception space, we decided to have these beautiful wooden chandeliers hung in the center of the room, over the dance floor, and had greenery vines climbing up existing pillars in the building to add some color– it was dreamy. And exactly what the bride had envisioned.

Opting to have guests sit at long tables, the bride chose this beautiful pale grey cheese cloth runners to run down the length of the tables, and strewn grey and white taper candles and beautiful purple floral centerpieces along the way.

As is standard for a wedding at Roche Harbor, the Colors ceremony is a chance for guests to enjoy the sunset on the marina, before resuming the celebration inside, with music and dancing. It also lends itself for some great ‘Golden Hour’ photos. 🙂

If I learned one thing from Paige + Sam’s wedding, it’s make your wedding your own. Do what you want. Have it look how you want it to look. And have fun doing it! And if you’re reading this, Paige + Sam, you were the best. 🙂 Thanks for trusting me with your day!
Cheers!
