I have a real treat for you today! With spring and sunshine here, many of you may be planning your engagement session with your photographers soon. We had the pleasure of working with Kristen Honeycutt recently. She photographed two of our weddings last month, so I asked her to give her best tips fo fanastic engagement photos with your love. Be ready to take notes and for all the photo inspiration ahead! Below are Kristen’s Top 5 Tips!
Tip 1: Dress to impress
This doesn’t mean you can’t wear jeans or your favorite t-shirt, but putting some thought into what you’ll wear can really make a difference in your pictures. A few things to think about…
- Coordinate, instead of matching. Find 2-3 colors that compliment each other, and play with those when choosing your attire. Pass on the matching black t-shirts, or you’ll look like one black blob when you cuddle up together.
- Accessories. Add a jacket, swap out a scarf, or throw in a bold statement necklace. Accessories are a great way to bring in a pop of color, and create different looks easily throughout the session.
- Make sure it’s comfortable- and it fits. If you’re spending the entire session tugging on your skirt, or itching from your sweater, chances are, you’ll miss out on some great shots. Know your body type, and dress to compliment it with comfortable clothes that fit well.
Tip 2: Schedule a hair and make up appointment
There’s nothing more stressful than running late, and Seattle has some especially unpredictable traffic at times. Do yourself a favor and plan to arrive a little bit early. If you get there with time to spare, grab a coffee or go for a walk- you’ll be relaxed and ready when your session begins.
This sounds like an obvious one, but it’s probably the most important. Your photographer can find you the prettiest light, the best location, and set you up for some great shots, but it’s up to you to bring the love. So laugh with each other, snuggle up, be affectionate, and enjoy the time spent together. I promise it will be fun, and afterwards you will have some of those sweet candid moments to add to your wall!
